Posen police say multiple shots were fired Tuesday afternoon near Western Avenue and 139th Street, though the police remain uncertain about who was involved.
Police responded at about 2:15 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired near the intersection.
Posen police Chief William Alexander said in a statement that officers found multiple shell casings throughout the roadway and said they believe a vehicle was involved.
No victims were found at the scene, Alexander said, but after calling hospitals discovered two people with gunshot wounds were admitted to University of Chicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey.
Cook County sheriff’s police are investigating due to the serious nature and the potential for attempted murder charges, Alexander said.
Alexander asked anyone with information to contact the Posen Police Department or Cook County Sheriff’s Police.
“We ask the public to remain patient and allow the investigative process to proceed,” he added.
“Thank you for your continued cooperation and support as we work together to keep our community safe.”
