Penelope Ann was born on October 18, 1938 at California Hospital in Los Angeles to Helen and Harold Bell.
Penny spent her early years in Los Angeles. In 1954, their family re-located to Temple City. Penny graduated in 1956 from Temple City High School. She attended UC Santa Barbara and was a proud member of the Delta Gamma sorority. Upon graduation, she became a first-grade teacher at Farmdale Elementary School in Los Angeles. While in Laguna Beach in 1961, she met what was to become the love of her life, Lee Alan Grund. They were married in 1963 and upon his graduation from the USC School of Dentistry in 1964, they moved to Arcadia.
Penny was active in many community groups such as KnitWits, Assistance League of Arcadia, Operation School Bell, Metropolitan Associates, National Charity League and San Marino League, both of which she served as President. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lee and two daughters Suzanne Galuszka (Joe) and Annemarie Phillips (John) and her adored granddaughters Allison, Victoria, Alexis and Natalie. Whether through her encouraging words, a card in the mail, or her boundless optimism, she left an indelible mark on the hearts of those around her.
