SEASIDE >> Two people were arrested for vandalizing laundromats and stealing ATM machines on the Monterey Peninsula.

Sage Keller, 23, from Seaside and Julia Spears, 26, from Pebble Beach were arrested at a house in Seaside on Wednesday, following a search warrant.

The Monterey Police Department responded to a burglary at a laundromat in the 2300-block of North Fremont Street, Feb. 21.

Surveillance cameras in the area showed a van driving up to the business, then someone throwing a heavy object through a glass window.

The suspect entered the building and removed an ATM machine, loading it into the van before fleeing the area.

A day later, a pedestrian walking at Asilomar Beach in Pacific Grove spotted the stolen ATM. It was cut open and the money had been removed.

On Feb. 24, Pacific Grove police officers responded to a burglary at a laundromat in the 1100-block of Forest Avenue in Pacific Grove.

There, video showed what appeared to be the same van parking behind the business and again throwing a heavy object through a glass window.

However, the ATM machine was bolted down and the suspect was unsuccessful in removing it, but was able to get away before police arrived.

Pacific Grove officers used Automated License Plate Reader cameras and compared notes with the Monterey Police to confirm it was the same van before serving a search warrant in conjunction with the Seaside Police Department at the 1800-block of Luzern Street.Inside the house, police found evidence related to both robberies and an assault rifle with a loaded high-capacity magazine and narcotics.

Keller was arrested on multiple charges including burglary and possession of an assault rifle. Keller was previously convicted of burglarizing the same Pacific Grove laundromat in 2021. He was booked into Monterey County Jail and held without bail.

Spears was arrested for possession of an assault rifle, possession of a large capacity magazine and committing a felony while on bail.

Spears is currently out on bail for an arrest related to the burglary of a business in Pebble Beach on Nov. 8, 2024, where the rear door was broken and an ATM machine was vandalized. Spears’s bail was set at $40,000.
