Minna Leah Weissman Caretto passed away peacefully at her home in Temecula on Sunday October 13th surrounded by her adoring family. Mindy was born on August 7, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY the third and final child of her parents Albert and Sheila Weissman. She grew up in Brooklyn and Miami but the family moved for good to southern California in 1959. She graduated from Dominguez High School in Compton in 1966 and later from Cal State Long Beach. In 1975 she married Mike Caretto and they raised two children together: Matt, a public defender, and Tracy, a graphic designer. Although Mike and Mindy divorced in 2007, they remained close throughout the years. It was after this divorce while she was living in Temecula that Mindy really came into her own. She found great friends with whom she enjoyed playing mahjong, doing sit and stitch, book club, water aerobics, movie nights, BBQs, and any other activities.
Mindy loved socializing and her laugh, smile, and enthusiasm for life were infectious on all those lucky enough to be around her. She was a joy to all those who knew her. She was also a true warrior, having beaten ovarian cancer twice and breast cancer. However, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August and her body was unable to resist this horrible disease. Mindy is survived by her two children Matt and Tracy, her daughter-in-law Bahar, her older sister Judy, her ex-husband Mike, and dozens of friends who loved her. The family is still working on arrangements for a celebration of life and will post the details on Mindy's social media as soon as plans are finalized. Rest in peace beautiful Mindy.
