Guest readers included Mayor Daniel Rourke, City Manager Tom Golden, state Reps. Vanna Howard, Tara Hong and Rodney Elliott, City Councilor Rita Mercier, as well as business and community leaders. Additionally, student-athletes from UMass Lowell and mascot Rowdy the River Hawk joined in the festivities, reinforcing the importance of reading and education.

TYNGSBORO >> The Tyngsboro Dunstable Rotary Club and the town’s Sustainability Committee join forces again to hold a Repair Cafe on Saturday, April 26. Repair Cafes started in Europe 15 years ago and have spread to this side of the Atlantic Ocean. The goal is to keep items that need fixing out of landfills. Residents are invited to bring their broken items, and with the help of volunteer repairers, get them back in working order.
Toasters, lamps, hair dryers, clothes, bikes, toys, jewelry and crockery are all welcome, and can more than likely be repaired. Many of the tools used will then be available to borrow from the Tyngsboro Public Library’s “Library of Things” so that residents can perform the same types of fixes at home without having to purchase these tools.
The Repair Cafe will be held at 2 Bridgeview Circle, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. If a resident has a specific repair skill they would like to share, contact the Sustainability Committee at sustainabletyngsboro@gmail.com.
