Betting line >> MNUFC plus-105; draw plus-260; San Diego plus-240

Form >> MNUFC (8-3-6, 30 points) and San Diego (9-5-3, 30 points) each have one defeat in their past seven MLS matches. Those surges have them tied for second in the Western Conference standings.

Comparison >> The Loons beat Seattle 3-2 on the road on June 1, while San Diego had more chances but lost to the Sounders 1-0 there on May 28.

History >> This is the Loons’ first match against the expansion franchise, with a return trip to Southern California in September.

Absences >> Dayne St. Clair, Tani Oluwaseyi, Joseph Rosales and Carlos Harvey are away on international duties. Kipp Keller (hamstring) and Sam Shashoua (oblique) are out.

Update >> Sang Bin Jeong has received his U.S. Green Card and Joaquin Pereyra is expected to travel to Buenos Aires to receive his next week. That will open up two international roster spots for MNUFC to bring in new additions this summer.

Context >> Michael Boxall and Robin Lod have returned from international duty. Boxall played fewer minutes with New Zealand in Canada, while Lod logged more time in Finland, so the workloads and travel time for both players might factor into how head coach Eric Ramsay uses them Saturday.

Projected starting XI >> In a 5-4-1 formation, FW Kelvin Yeboah; MF Joaquin Pereyra, MF Bongi Hlongwane, MF Owen Gene, MF Wil Trapp; LWB Anthony Markanich, CB Nico Romero, CB Michael Boxall, CB Jefferson Diaz, RWB Julian Gressel; GK Wessel Speel.

Scouting report >> San Diego is most lethal on the wings. Dane Anders Dreyer has 13 goal contributions on the right; Mexican Hirving “Chucky” Lozano has 10 on the left. But both might be out. Dreyer is coming off a stint with Denmark, and Lozano subbed out with a hamstring injury in the win over Austin on May 31.

Prediction >> Both clubs are among the five lowest-conceding teams in MLS, so this should be a low-scoring affair. Meanwhile, both teams will go on without key players in international duty. So, unfortunately, a 1-1 draw won’t teach us much about the hierarchy in the West.
