Two men were found fatally shot Sunday and Monday in Gary, police said.

Gary police responded at 9:10 p.m. Sunday to the 2400 block of Jennings Street in “reference to a man down,” Cmdr. Jack Hamady said in a news release.

“The caller advised that there was a possible gunshot wound victim near a vehicle,” according to the release.

Officers found a 69-year-old man from Fair Oaks, Ind., on the ground near a vehicle, Hamady said. Gary Fire Department arrived on scene “and advised that there were no signs of life,” according to the release.

The Lake County coroner’s office declared the man dead at the scene, Hamady said.

The coroner’s office ruled the man’s death a homicide caused by gunshot wounds, according to a release.

The man’s name had not been released as of Monday afternoon.

On Monday, Gary police were responded at 12:22 p.m. to the 2500 block of Calhoun Street after a caller advised there was a person lying in a ditch, Hamady said. Officers found an “unresponsive male” lying in a ditch off the roadway, according to Hamady. Gary fire determined the man had “no signs of life,” according to the release.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Jimmy Valentine, 55, of Gary. His death was ruled a homicide caused by a gunshot wound, according to the coroner’s office.
