Resident of Hayward

Our beloved Donna Scarano, age 81, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, after courageously battling cancer for the third time. Born on November 15, 1942, in Hayward, California, Donna was known for her warmth, generosity, and indomitable spirit.

She is deeply loved and will be forever missed by her son, Tim Scarano; daughter-in-law, Lin Huey; and granddaughter, Brianna Scarano. She is also survived by her brother, Herman Eaton; her cousin, Betty; and many other family members and dear friends.

Donna began her career at Mother's Cakes and Cookies before rising to serve as the head of BAKERY, CON- FECTIONERY & TOBACCO WORKERS UNION, LOCAL 125 (BCTM). In this role, she spent many years passionately advocating for the rights of working men and women, making a profound impact on the lives she touched. A strong voice for women’s equality and empowerment, her leadership was an inspiration to many.

Beyond her career, Donna found joy in giving back. She organized union retirees’ events and volunteered her time at the Oakland Museum’s White Elephant sale. An avid traveler, she explored the world with an open heart, embracing the beauty of different cultures and the great outdoors.

Her mornings were spent savoring a good cup of coffee in her backyard garden, a sanctuary she filled with colorful roses and vibrant plants. From cats to squirrels to spiders, Donna believed every living creature deserved protection and care.

Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family and community will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
