Suspect held in alleged bus attack

Authorities arrested a suspect who allegedly vandalized a Marin Transit bus and threatened the driver.

The Thursday incident occurred near the corner of Donahue Street and Terners Drive in Marin City. Sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Schermerhorn said that the suspect punched and broke the bus window. The driver then drove away out of concern for safety.

Schermerhorn said that investigators distributed photographs and video footage of the suspect to law enforcement agencies. Sausalito police identified him. He was detained by Novato police and arrested by sheriff’s deputies on Saturday.

Aaron Brandon Kelly, 45, of Novato was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism and making criminal threats. He was booked into the Marin County Jail where his bail was set at $50,000.

Sheriff arrests 2 in drug bust

Marin County sheriff’s detectives arrested two suspects who allegedly conducted a drug deal in Novato, one of whom had children with him, authorities said.

Investigators surveilled one suspect and determined that he was in Novato to conduct a drug sale with another man. The second suspect, identified as 34-year-old San Pablo resident David Cermeno-Godinez, was accompanied by his children, ages 1 and 2, and their mother, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives discovered more than half a kilogram of suspected cocaine worth an estimated $50,000 in Cermeno-Godinez’s vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. They later found a quarter pound of the suspected drug at the suspect’s home during a warrant search, authorities reported.

The Marin County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges of transportation and possession of controlled substances for sale, and conspiracy against Cermeno-Godinez. Authorities also filed conspiracy and transportation of controlled substances charges against John O’Connor, 38, of San Rafael.

Both men each posted $100,000 to bail out of Marin County Jail on Thursday.

O’Connor’s attorney, Douglas Horngrad said that his client was not involved in the sale of drugs.

“Mr. O’Connor is an upstanding member of the community,” he said. “He has no criminal record of any kind.”

Police plan DUI checkpoint

The Police Department will conduct a checkpoint to screen for impaired drivers and driver’s license violators on Friday.

The location will not be publicized in advance, but police said they planned to set up from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the downtown area.

Spots are chosen “based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes,” police said in an announcement.

The checkpoint is paid for through a grant from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, administered through the California Office of Traffic Safety.
