Alexis Díaz is back in the major leagues and ready to make his debut with the Dodgers, who acquired the 2023 All-Star reliever from the Cincinnati Reds over a month ago.

The Dodgers called up Díaz and sent right-hander Julian Fernández to Triple-A Oklahoma City before Tuesday night’s matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The 28-year-old Díaz came to the Dodgers in a May 29 trade that sent minor league pitcher Mike Villani to n the Reds. He had been with Triple-A Oklahoma City ever since, going 0-1 with a 9.64 earned run average in six appearances.

While at Oklahoma City, Díaz walked seven and struck out three over 4 2/3 innings.

“I think that there’s been some good and some not-so-good, just trying to be consistent with the delivery,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “The arm still works. The stuff is still good. But the consistency of strike-throwing is what we haven’t seen yet from Alexis.”

This has been a difficult season for Díaz. He opened the season on the injured list with a left hamstring strain, then went 0-0 with a 12.00 ERA in six appearances with Cincinnati. He lost his job as the Reds’ closer and was eventually sent to the minors before getting traded to the Dodgers.

Díaz is the younger brother of New York Mets closer Edwin Díaz. He totaled 75 saves with the Reds from 2022-24.

The 29-year-old Fernández was called up Monday and allowed two runs over two innings in a 9-1 loss to the Brewers. He is 3-0 with a 4.08 ERA in 24 games with Oklahoma City.

In other Dodgers pitching news, right-hander Tyler Glasnow is expected to return from the injured list and start today’s game at Milwaukee. Glasnow has been dealing with shoulder inflammation and last pitched for the Dodgers on April 27.

“I’m excited to get him back on the mound,” Roberts said. “He’s excited to be back on the mound.”

PIRATES’ CRUZ in DERBY

Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Oneil Cruz, known more for delivering hard-hit homers than producing them in quantity, was added Tuesday to next week’s Home Run Derby in Atlanta.

He is the fifth player named as a participant in Monday’s event at Truist Park, which hosts the All-Star Game a night later. Also competing are Atlanta’s Ronald Acuña Jr., Minnesota’s Byron Buxton, Seattle’s Cal Raleigh and Washington’s James Wood.

Cruz, 26, had 15 homers entering Tuesday night’s game at Kansas City. He hit a career-best 21 last season.

When the 6-foot-7 Cruz hits a homer, he often hits it hard. On May 25 against visiting Milwaukee, he hit a ball measured at 122.9 mph into the Allegheny River, the highest exit velocity on a home run since Statcast began tracking in 2015.

mETS’ MARTE ON IL

The New York Mets placed Starling Marte on the 10-day injured list with a bruised right knee and activated Jesse Winker, who missed two months with an oblique injury.

Marte and Winker play the outfield, but have been used primarily as the Mets’ designated hitter.

“It’s funny how things work,” manager Carlos Mendoza said. “You gain one, you lose one.”

Marte had seven hits in his last three games, including three on Sunday as the starting left fielder against the Yankees. The 36-year-old is batting .270 with four homers and 20 RBIs in 58 games.

The Mets hope to have Marte back after the All-Star break.

“It was something he was dealing with during spring training and a little bit of last year,” Mendoza said. “We’re going to let it calm down. Talking with him today, he’s in a pretty good spot.”

Winker, activated from the 60-day injured list, last played on May 4. The left fielder entered Tuesday batting .239 with one home run and 10 RBIs in 24 games.

“He’s a big bat, especially from the left side,” Mendoza said. “You know what you’re going to get at the plate. I’m excited to have him back.”

CHISOLM at SECOND

All-Star infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. moved back to second base with the New York Yankees in place of DJ LeMahieu, who is heading to the bench.

Chisholm has been playing third base, but he’s made some wayward throws lately while hampered by a sore shoulder, and the Yankees have struggled on defense at times.

He was back at second for Tuesday night’s series opener against the Seattle Mariners, with Oswald Peraza starting at third.

In other Yankees news, reliever Mark Leiter Jr. was placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Monday, with a stress fracture in his left leg.
