Jim was born in Jeannette, PA to Father, James E. Kohl Sr. and Mother Ruth H.Loughner.

Jim met Freda L. Johnson in 1947, their senior year, and they married in 1952. Jim graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a BBA and was a Rhodes Scholar. Freda graduated as a Registered Nurse. Freda was Jim’s beloved wife for 68 years until her passing Nov. 2020.

Jim served in Korea during the Korean Conflict 1952-52 as a First Lieutenant in the US Army. He was immediately called to serve in US Army. They were married in 1952 over Labor Day weekend at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church where both families were members. Jim finished serving his country in Korea. Their son, James III was born. Jim began working for Price Waterhouse & Co. and became a Certified Public Accountant. While working as a CPA, in Pittsburgh, daughter Lynn was born.

Jim is survived by his two children, James E. Kohl III and Lynn Anne and her husband Ronald G. Hoyle all of Walnut Creek, CA. and two grandchildren Stephen and Joshua Kohl of Brentwood, CA. Neil Guest, Jr. is his cousin from Jeannette, PA.
