Prince Harry claimed a “monumental” victory Wednesday as Rupert Murdoch’s British tabloids made an unprecedented apology for intruding in his life for years and agreed to pay substantial damages to settle his privacy invasion lawsuit.
News Group Newspapers acknowledged its private investigators and journalists targeted Harry with phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information. The company offered him a “full and unequivocal apology” for intrusion by the now-defunct News of the World and its sister tabloid The Sun.
The statement, read out at the High Court in London by Harry’s attorney David Sherborne, even went beyond the scope of the case to acknowledge intruding on the life of Harry’s mother, the late Princess Diana, and the impact it had on his family.
“We acknowledge and apologize for the distress caused to the duke, and the damage inflicted on relationships, friendships and family, and have agreed to pay him substantial damages,” the settlement statement said.
wife provides update on stroke patient Brian May
Queen guitarist Brian May revealed in a social media post last September that he had suffered a stroke that left him unable to control his left arm.
Fans have not heard much from him since, but his wife, actress Anita Dobson, provided The Sun with a big update on him this week. Dobson said her husband is “stable.”
“Brian is stable now,” she added. “Brian has never been happier since we moved. For me it’s been a curveball as I’m a London girl born and bred so going to the countryside to a house that needs a lot of work was a bit of a shock.”
But she said the move has been great for the 77-year-old May.
“He loves it,” she said. “He loves the birds and animals. He feeds all the birds and the badgers, foxes and pheasants. It’s like running a pub for animals.”
She also said May has taken up cooking as a hobby.
Dench’s vision so bad, she no longer goes out alone
Dame Judi Dench always has someone with her when she is in public now for a reason.
During a conversation on the “Fearless” podcast with Trinny Woodall, the actress was asked about attending industry events.
Woodall pointed out that Dench is always with someone.
“I have to now because I can’t see,” Dench said. “And I walk into something.”
When asked about going solo, the star said she’s “not good at that at all.”
“Not at all. Nor would I be now,” Dench said. “And fortunately, I don’t have to be now.”
She laughingly said she has “no eyesight.”
