76ers guard Oubre hit by vehicle in Philly, will miss significant playing time

PHILADELPHIA>> Philadelphia 76ers guard Kelly Oubre Jr. has sustained undisclosed injuries after being struck by a vehicle Saturday, the team said, and is expected to miss significant playing time.

The 27-year-old Oubre was transported to a hospital in stable condition after being hit, and released a few hours later. The teams says he is not expected to miss the rest of the season, but did not provide information on his injuries.

The Sixers said Oubre was walking near his residence in downtown Philadelphia when he struck while crossing a street. There is an active police investigation into the incident.

Former NFL cornerback Hayden and 5 others killed in crash in Houston

HOUSTON>> A crash at a red light killed six people including former NFL cornerback D.J. Hayden in downtown Houston early Saturday.

The two-vehicle crash occurred about 2 a.m. when a Chrysler 300, apparently “going very fast, high velocity,” ran the red light and collided with an SUV, Houston Police Assistant Chief Megan Howard said.

Virginia RB recovering after spine surgery in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky.>> Virginia’s Perris Jones had spine surgery and was briefly able to walk, the school said Saturday, two days after the running back was immobilized and carted off the field after being injured against the No. 11 Cardinals. He will be transferred to Frazier Rehabilitation Institute in Louisville for continued care when his medical team deems appropriate.

No. 2 Pioneers split series with No. 16 Arizona State
