Two-way center Quinten Post scored a game-high 22 points and had seven rebounds and two assists, but Santa Cruz lost its series opener against San Diego, 123-89, in the teams’ NBA G League Showcase Cup game at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Saturday night.

Santa Cruz shot 36% from the field (31 of 86), committed 24 turnovers, and was outscored in the paint, 54-28.

Forward Blake Hinson made his first start and finished with 15 points and five rebounds for the Warriors (6-7). Gui Santos, on assignment from Golden State, had 12 points, six assists, and five rebounds.

Guard RayJ Dennis and forward Braxton Key each scored 21 points for San Diego (8-5). Key also had nine rebounds and seven assists. Guard Elijah Harkless had 18 points, four rebounds, and five steals. Guard Cam Christie (15 points), forward Tosan Evbuomwan (13 points), two-way guard Trentyn Flowers (13 points), and guard Nate Darling (12 points) all had double-digit performances for the Clippers.

The teams square off again in Santa Cruz on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Boys basketball

Aptos 61, Hollister 44 >> Nick Tovani scored 20 points and the Mariners won the consolation championship at the 44th annual Bob Hagen Memorial Tournament at Gilroy High on Saturday.

Aptos played all 15 of its players and 10 of them scored. Isaiah Ackerman scored 16 points, and teammate Owen Warmerdam had 10 points and five blocked shots.

Ackerman led the Mariners with 65 points over three games and was an all-tournament selection.

Aptos (3-2) hosts North Monterey County (2-1) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Soquel 50, Enterprise (Redding) 39 >> Senior guard Nico Ramirez scored a game-high 16 points, and the Knights won the consolation championship at the Luis and Lucille Scattini Memorial Tournament at Palma School in Salinas on Saturday.

Ramirez was named to the all-tournament team.

Nolen Westfall scored 12 points for the Knights (4-3), and Peyton Bortz chipped in with nine points.

Alijah Collins scored eight points to lead the Hornets (5-3).

Soquel plays at Pacific Grove (3-2) on Friday at 7 p.m.

The King’s Academy 63, Santa Cruz 50 >> DeMarco Hunter had 25 points and nine rebounds, but the Cardinals dropped their finale at the Joe Schram Holiday Classic at Saint Francis High in Mountain View on Saturday.

The Cardinals (3-4) host Mountain View on Friday at 7 p.m.

At Mountain View 71, Scotts Valley 42 >> The Falcons were 2-of-21 shooting in the first half and unable to overcome their slow start in their nonleague loss Saturday.

Center Jacob Sanders led the Falcons with 14 points, and guard Will Shilling added nine points.

The Falcons (3-4) compete in the 76th annual Carmel Invitational on Thursday.

Oakwood 67, Monte Vista Christian 52 >> Nico Downie made three 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 17 points, but the Mustangs lost their Watsonville Tournament game Saturday.

Matteo Vidal scored 11 points for MVC (3-3), and Braden Dobler and Gavin Beckmen each scored 10 points.

Sophomore guard Bryce Smith-Keeney scored 18 points to lead the Hawks (6-1).

MVC hosts Harbor on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

At Watsonville 95, King City 52 >> Junior Leon Madec made five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points, and the Wildcatz won their Watsonville Tournament finale on Saturday.

Junior Max Aceves made four 3s and scored 24 points for the Wildcatz (4-2), and classmate Tino Razo added 10 points.

Timothy Lopez made seven 3s and scored 23 points for the Mustangs (1-4).

Watsonville plays at Mission San Jose (1-3) in Fremont on Friday at 7 p.m.

Pacifico Surf Open Puerto Escondido >> Santa Cruz’s John Mel tied for third place overall at the World Surf League’s Pacifico Surf Open Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca, Mexico, on Saturday.

Mel beat Will Deane 10.33 to 5.27 in the quarterfinals, but was eliminated with his 14.67 to 11.33 loss to eventual champion Hayden Rodgers of San Clemente in the semifinals.

Mel earned 650 points for his finish at the Qualifying Series 1,000-point event.

Rodgers beat Ryan Huckabee of Flagler Beach, Florida, 13.50 to 11.56 in the final.

Women’s basketball

At Cabrillo 60, Rio Honda 41 >> Freshman forward Gabby Brooks made four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points, and the Seahawks won their game at the Aaron Short Memorial Tournament in Aptos on Saturday.

Sophomore forward Renee Parker scored 14 points for the Seahawks (8-3), who led 35-19 at the half.

Sophomore guard Jaden Hill-Massarotti scored 13 points to lead the Roadrunners (5-8).

Cabrillo hosts Reedley (6-6) in tournament action on Sunday at 3 p.m.

At Redwoods 84, Cabrillo 69 >> The Seahawks lost consecutive games for the first time this season on Saturday.

The Seahawks (7-5) host Chabot (7-3) to open the Andrel Gaines Classic in Aptos on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Girls basketball

Santa Cruz 49, Live Oak 38 >> Sophomore Ania Sinnott scored a game-high 12 points and had three assists, and the Cardinals won their Del Mar Shootout game in San Jose on Saturday.

Sophomore Mila Conn scored 10 points for the Cardinals (2-4), and Karolina Espinosa had nine points and six steals. Senior Kelaiah Wynn pulled down six rebounds.

Senior Kat Clement scored 24 points to lead the Acorns (5-3).

Santa Cruz plays at Half Moon Bay (3-1) on Monday at 6 p.m.

Prospect 48, Scotts Valley 43 >> Junior Brooklyn Williams and sophomore Hanna Shehorn each scored 14 points, but the Falcons lost in the third-place game at the The King’s Academy Tournament in Sunnyvale on Saturday.

Senior Claire Skinner scored eight points for the Falcons, who trailed 24-23 at the half.

Senior forward Sadie Slaughter scored 22 points to lead the Panthers (3-2).

Scotts Valley (5-2) hosts San Jose’s Cristo Rey on Friday at 6 p.m.

Palma 50, Harbor 18 >> The Pirates struggled to break the Chieftains’ suffocating press and suffered a nonleague loss Saturday.

Sophomore Michelle Lopez led Harbor (1-6) with nine points.

Freshman Miyah Nickerson led the Chieftains (5-0) with 17 points.

Harbor’s tough nonleague schedule continues Thursday at Castelleja (6-1). Excluding Harbor’s one victory, every other opponent the Pirates have played thus far have a combined 24-6 record, an .800 win percentage.

Boys soccer

Harbor 5, Edison 0 >> Brandon Jimenez, Javi Calles, Kelvin Ramos, Mateo Ortega, and Andres Reyes scored in the Pirates’ win at the Tom Moore Invitational at Stevenson School in Pebble Beach on Saturday morning.

Jair Martinez and Sai Nguyen registered assists.

Goalies Damian Escalante and Calvin Schwartz each made two saves.

Harbor 3, Sacred Heart Prep 0 >> Danny Garcia, Alex Aparicio, and Moi Hernandez scored goals, and the Pirates won the final at the Tom Moore Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Cesar Onesto had an assist, and goalie Damian Escalante made four saves.

Harbor (5-1-1) hosts MVC (3-1-1) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Ceiba 3, at St. Francis 0 >> The Spartans scored all three goals in the first half of their nonleague win Saturday.

Ceiba (1-2-0) converted a penalty kick and scored off two corner kicks.

Goalkeeper Brady Stidham made four saves for the Sharks (0-3).

“Defensively the team looked way better,” Sharks coach Valentin Berrelleza said. “Vince Tovar been the defensive leader. In the middle, Aiden Berrelleza and Oscar Vargas were key too. We found our defensive shape. We have long ways to go to get better but one step at a time.”

On Tuesday, St. Francis plays at SLV at 3:30 p.m., and Ceiba plays at Santa Cruz at 7 p.m.

Watsonville 4, at Silver Creek 4 >> The Wildcatz scored four goals in the second half to earn a tie in their nonleague match in San Jose on Saturday.

Niko Gallegos, Damian Mora, and Alexis Castillo scored for the Wildcatz, who also benefitted from an own goal by the Raiders.

Jacob Aguilar assisted on Mora’s goal.

Watsonville (0-1-3) plays at Aptos on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Girls soccer

At St. Francis 1, Stenson 0 >> Peyton Orradre scored on a pass from Haley Ritter in the 75th minute, and the Sharks won their nonleague match Saturday.

Goalie Maddison Silva made six saves for the Sharks (2-0-1).

“Excellent play by the defensive back line,” Sharks coach Chris Croghan said.

St. Francis hosts SLV on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Boys wrestling

Webber Lawson Tournament >> Aptos’ Cruz Contreras (132) took third place in his weight division at the Webber Lawson Tournament at Fremont High in Sunnyvale on Saturday.

Aptos’ Dominic Cabot (106) took fourth, and the Mariners (66.0 points) took 14th out of 50 teams.

Santa Cruz’s Balam Letona (126) and SLV’s Grady Cloyd (190) took sixth, and Santa Cruz’s Mauricio Montoreano (150) took eighth.

Girls wrestling

Webber Lawson Tournament >> Santa Cruz’s Vera Bentley (130) took fourth place in her weight division at the 60-team Webber Lawson Tournament at Fremont High in Sunnyvale on Friday.
