PHILADELPHIA >> Already an NBA MVP and an Olympic gold medalist, All-Star center Joel Embiid now has until the end of the decade to try to win his first NBA championship with the Philadelphia 76ers.

With another maximum contract secured, Embiid wants to chase that title in Philly — and remain a Sixer for the rest of his career.

“Philadelphia is home,” Embiid wrote on Instagram.

A seven-time NBA All-Star, Embiid and the 76ers agreed to a $193 million extension with a player option for the 2028-29 season, a person familiar with the deal said.

The 30-year-old Embiid, who graduated from a Florida high school and played a season in college at Kansas, broke his own news early Friday morning when he posted a photo on Instagram of him signing a contract alongside team owner Josh Harris.

Embiid — still in the second year of a $196 million extension he signed ahead of the 2021 season — became the third cornerstone player this offseason to sign a massive contract with the 76ers. The team hasn’t won an NBA title since 1983.

A dozen Tufts players diagnosed with rare muscle injury >> A dozen Tufts University men’s lacrosse players have been diagnosed with a rare muscle injury after participating in a voluntary, supervised 45-minute workout that the team conducted, a university spokesperson said.

Five of the players who have been diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis remained hospitalized, according to Patrick Collins director of media relations for the school.

The workout on Monday was led by a graduate of the university who had completed Navy SEAL training.

Rhabdomyolysis is a rare muscle injury where a person’s muscles break down, according to the Cleveland Clinic. It’s a life-threatening condition that can happen after an injury or excessive exercise without rest.

Chargers QB Herbert listed as questionable >> Justin Herbert’s status for Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh could come down to a game-time decision after the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback did not practice because of a high right ankle sprain.

Herbert is listed as questionable on the injury report but said it is “something that’s yet to be decided” on if he can play.

Herbert’s right ankle got rolled up on during the third quarter of last Sunday’s 26-3 victory over the Carolina Panthers. He did not practice on Wednesday and was listed as limited on Thursday after doing some light throwing.

QB Love questionable for Packers’ game >> Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

Love also was listed as questionable last Friday on Green Bay’s injury report, but he was downgraded to doubtful the following day and ended up missing the Packers’ 16-10 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. Love hadn’t practiced at all in the week leading up to the Colts game, but he’s been practicing on a limited basis each of the last three days.

Bears WR Allen to miss second straight game >> No. 1 draft pick Caleb Williams will once again be missing a top wide receiver, with the Chicago Bears ruling Keenan Allen out for the second straight week because of a heel injury.

Allen will not travel with the team to Indianapolis for Sunday’s game against the Colts. His heel has been bothering the six-time Pro Bowler for several weeks, though coach Matt Eberflus said it is improving. He also said Allen is dealing with a personal matter.

Vikings clear Jefferson to play but rule out Addison >> Justin Jefferson maintained confidence he would play this week despite the bruised quadriceps that forced him out of the last game.

The Minnesota Vikings agreed with their star wide receiver. After practicing without restriction, Jefferson was cleared to play on Sunday against Houston.

Jefferson will play again without his top sidekick, Jordan Addison. The 2023 first-round draft pick, who hurt his ankle in the season opener at New York, was ruled out for the second straight game.
