The defending World Series champion Dodgers opened the new MLB season in Japan while most of the Los Angeles region was asleep Tuesday, defeating the Chicago Cubs 4-1 to start a two-game series in Tokyo.
Dodgers stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto both took part in the victory in their home country. Ohtani had two hits and scored twice, while Yamamoto limited the Cubs to one run in five innings. Cubs starter Shota Imanaga, also from Japan, pitched four scoreless innings.
The Dodgers and Cubs will play again at 3 a.m. today, when Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki will make his MLB debut with the Dodgers.
