Karen Kay Scott Petterson, a cherished member of the Louisville, Colorado community, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025 at the age of 83.

Born in Marion City, Iowa on May 20, 1941 to Maxine Eppard Scott and Morris William Scott, Karen lived a life many would admire.

Karen graduated from Iowa State University and earned a Master of Education from Boston University. She was a lifelong member of the Pi Beta Phi Fraternity for Women.

She met Jerry, the love of her life and a fellow educator, while teaching in Anaheim, California.

They married, and that's when the adventures really began. The couple filled their lives by educating students for many years in Germany and the Philippines with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools.

Karen enjoyed teaching Home Economics and later inspired many students as a high school counselor in the Boulder Valley Schools District until retirement. She was honored by being named Colorado's School Counselor of the Year in 1987.

Karen and Jerry were married for 56 years before he passed away last year.

They were inseparable, and they shared a love of traveling to many wonderful destinations with their dearest friends.

Karen can be remembered for her extraordinary crafting, quilt making and hosting skills. Karen was incredibly kind hearted with a smile and laugh one would never forget. She had an immense passion for her work and was always a positive light in this world. She will be greatly missed by her nephews, nieces, godchildren, cousins and her dearest friends she considered family.

She will be laid to rest in Montevideo, Minnesota at a later date. Contributions can be made to The Alzheimer's Association in honor of Karen if you wish.
