Longmont resident completes first trucks race

Cassten Everidge made history Friday night, becoming the first known Longmont resident to compete in a NASCAR national series race.

The 28-year-old finished 32nd in the TSport 200, a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. The 200-lap event served as a prelude to Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Brickyard 400 at nearby Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“When you’re in racing for as long as my Everidge Racing crew has been — especially my dad and my grandpa — NASCAR is always kind of the North Star,” Everidge told the Daily Camera last week.

Mets slugger Juan Soto goes on 10-day injured list

New York Mets slugger Juan Soto was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left calf strain that’s expected to sideline him for at least three weeks and probably more.

The five-time All-Star underwent imaging that revealed a grade 2 strain, interim manager Andy Green said.

Soto missed 15 games from April 4-21 with a right calf strain and the Mets went 3-12 without him — losing their last 12 games during that stretch.

Soto is hitting .283 with 21 homers, 52 RBIs and an NL-best .947 OPS in 84 games this season.

The Texas Rangers placed third baseman Josh Jung on the 10-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to Wednesday, with a left calf strain.

Jung is the team’s leading hitter and tied for third in the American League with a .294 average. He left Tuesday night’s win over the Chicago White Sox early.

Joshua storms back from two knockdowns

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia >> Former two-time world champion Anthony Joshua recovered from two knockdowns to knock out Kristian Prenga in the second round of a dramatic non-title heavyweight fight on Saturday.

The comeback also saved possibly the biggest fight in British boxing history. Joshua and Tyson Fury have reportedly signed a contract to meet for the first time later this year, but it was on condition they came through warm-up bouts this weekend. Fury played his part on Friday by forcing Mariusz Wach to retire.
