Now here’s a deal you can’t beat. If you’re 65 or older, you can get into the San Diego Zoo Safari Park for free during February.
Yes, that’s a great value, and if you’ve never been there, it’s a very enjoyable day. There’s even a tram that will take you around, if you’re not up for lots of walking. It’s two-thirds of a mile from the entrance, but you can bring your mobility scooter or wheelchair, and the path is wide and flat. In fact, the park is generally quite wheelchair-friendly.
You can rent a manual wheelchair for $16 or a scooter for $60 per day. There are several restaurants on-site that are pretty decent, and none of them is ridiculously overpriced.
Now the downside is that you still have to pay for parking, so pack your car with other seniors and head on out. General parking is $20; preferred parking (meaning not hideously far away) is $38. You’ll need to present a valid ID showing your age. The park is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Regularly priced tickets are $76 for adults and $66 for kids 3-11, with “value days” slightly cheaper.
