Gophers starting quarterback Drake Lindsey pleaded guilty Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of being a minor in possession of alcohol and fake identification.

A Washington County (Ark.) Deputy Clerk told the Pioneer Press the matter was settled with Lindsey having one year of unsupervised probation. He also will pay court fees.

Lindsey, then age 20, was arrested by the Fayetteville Police Department on May 1 in the Yeehawg Bar. Lindsey, a Fayetteville, Ark., native, admitted to police that he used a fake ID and consumed alcohol prior to arriving at the bar in downtown Fayetteville.

After the incident, Gophers coach P.J. Fleck said the matter would be handled internally. A source told the Pioneer Press last week that Lindsey will not miss game time once the season starts Sept. 3 versus Eastern Illinois at Huntington Bank Stadium.

Lindsey addressed his arrest in June.

“As a leader of the football team, I understand I can’t make those decisions,” he said at a news conference at the U’s Larson Football Performance Center. “I’ve certainly grown a lot from them and learned a lot. I apologize to the administration, our staff, all players.”

After his May arrest, Lindsey was taken to the juvenile detention center and another copy of the fake ID was located in his wallet. According to the initial police report, Lindsey continued to cooperate with police and signed a document acknowledging the use of a fraudulent or altered form of identification.

Lindsey, who turned 21 last week, will enter his second season as the U’s starting quarterback this fall. He completed 63% of his passes for 2,382 yards, 18 touchdowns and six interceptions in all 13 games in 2025.
