Students can learn about water and conservation
Fourth and fifth graders will learn about water and conservation at this year’s Operation Water Festival from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14 at the University of Colorado Boulder’s University Memorial Center, 1669 Euclid Ave.
The students learn how everyone can work together to be good stewards of the environment, Laurel Olsen, community engagement senior program manager for Boulder, said in a statement.
Workers from Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and other water-oriented groups will have demonstrations and activities for the students. LONGMONT
Jigsaw puzzle competition slated for public library
The Longmont Public Library, 409 Fourth Ave., will host a jigsaw puzzle competition from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 18.
Ten teams of two will compete for prizes by racing against each other to complete a 500-piece puzzle. The competition is free.

LAFAYETTE
Police to host bicycle rodeo for young riders
Lafayette police will host a bicycle rodeo event to teach children bicycle safety at 9 a.m. June 8 at the Flatirons Church back parking lot, 201 Waneka Parkway, according to a press release from the police department.
Children age 12 and younger can take a road skills course, get a bicycle safety inspection and have lunch. Parents must accompany their children and will need to sign a release waiver form, which will be available the day of the event. Bikes and safety gear are also required to participate in the event, according to the release.
BROOMFIELD
Police help sponsor anti-car-theft event
Broomfield police, KIA, Flatiron Crossing Mall and the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority are sponsoring a free anti-theft software upgrade event for KIA car owners 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday at the Flatiron Crossing Mall, according to a press release.
Technicians will be at the mall to install the software. No appointment is needed. To find out if your vehicle is eligible, you can visit KIA’s Customer Care Center website and enter your VIN number. Those not eligible for the upgrade can receive free steering wheel locks. Broomfield police will also be at the event to hand out educational materials on vehicle theft and safety, the release said.
