Colorado State football head coach Jay Norvell announced several updates and additions to his offensive staff on Thursday.

Quarterbacks coach Matt Mumme has been promoted to pass-game coordinator, while offensive line coach Bill Best has been promoted to run-game coordinator for the 2025 season.

“I’m glad to announce the new titles and roles for Matt Mumme and Bill Best,” Norvell said in a news release. “Both coaches have been influential over the years in both those areas of our offense, and I’m excited to have them continue to lead on offense.”

Both Mumme and Best came with Norvell from Nevada prior to the 2022 season. Mumme was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the Wolf Pack for five seasons. His prior coaching experience includes offensive or co-offensive coordinator positions at New Mexico State, McMurry (Texas) and Davidson. Prior to coaching at Nevada, he was the head coach at LaGrange (Ga.) College for four seasons.

Best spent two seasons at Nevada. Prior to that, he was an offensive assistant in some capacity at Rice, Stephen F. Austin, Central Arkansas, West Texas A&M and Ranger (Texas) College. He will also continue to coach the offensive line.

Norvell also announced the hiring of Mike Goff as an assistant offensive line coach. Goff spent last season with CSU as a volunteer, assisting with the offensive line. Goff’s prior stops include San Diego State, USC and Western Kentucky.

Goff was also a 12-year NFL veteran and was named All-Pro in 2005. His career in the NFL includes time with the Cincinnati Bengals (1998-2003), San Diego Chargers (2004-08) and Kansas City Chiefs (2009). Goff started 154 of his 171 career games in the league after he was drafted in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft following his collegiate career at Iowa.

Other offensive staff changes include James Finaly moving from tight ends coach to wide receivers coach; Chase Holbrook promoted to quarterbacks coach; and Tyler Gilliam promoted to assistant special teams coach. Finley takes over for Chad Savage, who took the tight ends/inside receivers coaching position at USC.

Holbrook has been an offensive analyst for the past three seasons, so he isn’t new to the quarterback room. Prior to Fort Collins, he was at his alma mater New Mexico State for five seasons coaching quarterbacks.

The rest of the offensive staff includes Tommy Perry, special teams coordinator; Jeremy Moses, wide receivers; Bobby Lawrence, offensive graduate assistant offensive line; and Garrett McClure, offensive graduate assistant wide receivers.

The team still has an opening for a tight ends coach.
