A woman was killed Monday night in Campton Hills after she drove through a stop sign and was struck by semi-trailer truck loaded with mulch, police said.

The crash occurred about 6:35 p.m. at Route 47 and McDonald Road, according to a release from the Campton Hills Police Department.

A preliminary investigation indicates the 69-year-old woman, whose name has not been disclosed, was westbound on McDonald in a Ford Escape and did not stop at the posted sign, the release said. Her SUV was struck by a northbound Kenworth truck on Route 47 that weighed about 70,000 pounds.

The woman had to be extricated from her vehicle by Pingree Grove and Countryside fire department emergency workers and was pronounced dead at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin.

The truck driver was not injured.

Campton Hills, assisted by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, closed the intersection for about three hours so an investigation could be conducted.

Anyone with information on the crash should contact the Campton Hills police at 630-584-0330.
