Trial scheduled for Farmington Hills teen accused of murder

A trial date is set for a Farmington Hills teen accused of killing a woman last summer in Detroit.
Brandon Butler will go on trial April 28 in 3rd Circuit Court of Michigan for the July 13, 2024 fatal shooting of Tavita Hunter, 23. Butler, 17 at the time of the slaying, is charged with first-degree premeditated homicide and felony firearm.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Butler allegedly shot Hunter after an altercation with her escalated. He then fled the scene.
Detroit police dispatched to the intersection of Cardoni and Robinwood streets for a reported shooting found Hunter lying on the grass. She had a gunshot wound to the back and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Butler will be tried as an adult.
