Resident of Saratoga
Sue Wingerter, age 83, passed away peacefully with her family at her side from complications of pneumonia on June 15, 2025. Born in Canton, Ohio to parents George Wingerter and Helen Jenkins, Sue grew up in Columbus and East Cleveland, Ohio, graduating from Shaw High School, Class of 1959. She went on to Miami University, Oxford, Ohio where she majored in Spanish and was a Varsity Cheerleader.
After graduation in 1963, she taught Spanish in the Cleveland area and in 1969, had the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to Nicaragua with a team from the First Baptist Church of Cleveland to help build medical clinics in rural Nicaragua. This was transformative: upon returning to the states, she enrolled in a nursing program in Cleveland and her daughter Julie was born shortly thereafter in 1972. As a single mom, it was a real struggle, but she persevered and soon specialized in Neonatal Intensive Care. After work in Houston and Washington, D.C., she came west in 1987 to work at Stanford Hospital and Valley Medical Center NICU.
In 1994 she married Stan Bogosian and settled in Saratoga, retiring from Valley Medical Center in 2007.
During retirement, she traveled with her nursing buddies to Europe, Asia, and accomplished her lifetime dream of visiting Machu Picchu. Over the years, she fostered countless kittens and was a mom to many fur babies.
Sue is survived by her husband Stan, daughter Juliet Martzke (Brett), grandchildren Cody, Ava, and Brady, as well as her fur family.
Memorial to be held at alater date. She will be missed.
