A 41-year-old man has been confirmed dead as a result of a crash on U.S. 287 Thursday evening in Broomfield. He is the second man to die in a crash on this stretch of highway this week.
In addition to the man who died, Broomfield police confirmed Friday that another man was injured in the two-vehicle, head-on collision on Thursday evening.
At 5:10 p.m. Thursday, Broomfield police tweeted that all southbound lanes of U.S. 287 were closed from Miramonte Boulevard to Dillon Road for a serious crash. In an 8:15 p.m. update, officials announced the road had reopened.
The Broomfield and Adams Counties coroner will release the name of the person who died after the next of kin have been notified.
Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
On Monday, 51-year-old Garett Nelson was driving eastbound at the Dillon Road and U.S. 287 intersection when he was fatally struck by a pickup truck driver heading southbound on U.S. 287. The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into a post on the south end of the intersection.
The man who struck Nelson was transported to the hospital with injuries that Lafayette police have yet to share the extent of.
In a Thursday update, Lafayette police said no arrests have been made in the crash.
“With these types of significant cases, there is good deal of investigation to do in order to arrive at the right charging decision, so it may be a little bit longer before we are able to provide any additional information,” Administrative Sergeant Jeremy Molander said.
Molander said he would provide updates when available.
