Police investigate menacing case

Boulder police are investigating after a man reportedly pulled a gun on a coworker Thursday.

Boulder police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh said two roadworkers on Sumac Avenue got into an altercation when one of them threatened the other with a gun, then left the area.

Police were not able to immediately locate the armed man, and the case remains under investigation.

Nearby Crest View Elementary was temporarily placed on secure status as a precaution, but Waugh said no threat was ever made to the school.

USFS to begin prescribed burns operations

The United States Forest Service expects to begin operations on the Forsythe II Prescribed Burn on Friday, according to a news release.

The prescribed burn area is located 7 miles southwest of Boulder and around 5 miles east of Nederland.

According to the release, residents can expect to see smoke and flames during operations, particularly in the Lakeshore subdivision, Crescent Village, Crescent Meadows, Gross Reservoir, Walker Park Ranch, Miramonte, Wondervu, Eldorado Canyon State Park and parts of east Boulder County.

The burning will be implemented in coordination with local agencies and partners.

This includes Boulder Watershed Collective, Boulder County Fireshed, state and county public health agencies and other local agency fire cooperators, according to the release.

The project is an ongoing effort to “protect watersheds and improve wildlife habitat and forest health conditions, by reducing the buildup of hazardous fuels,” according to the release.

Emails are expected to be sent before the burning begins.

More information on the impact of the smoke can be found on Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment’s website.
