We’re more than halfway through the year, but the live entertainment in Southern California casinos is just heating up.

Q Which triple platinum R&B star played a child extra in the biopic “Malcolm X”?

A Singer Ashanti was an extra in the film based on the civil rights leader. Her grandfather, James Davis, was also a civil rights activist and head of the Long Island chapter of the NAACP.

Ashanti has a few film credits under her belt, including “Coach Carter,” “John Tucker Must Die” and “Resident Evil: Extinction.” However, she’s better known for her chart-topping hits like “What’s Luv,” “Foolish” and “Rock Wit U (Awww Baby).”

Q Which funk band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by Prince?

A George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, who entered the rock hall in 1997. In his induction speech, Prince praised the band for its blend of funk and psychedelic rock with an Afrofuturist aesthetic that influenced his work.

Q Which Myspace act got its first chart-topping single with the help of producer Timbaland?

A Before the days of Spotify and SoundCloud, Myspace, a now-dwindled social network, hosted a variety of musicians. One of the most successful unsigned acts was OneRepublic. The band eventually signed to a label and released an album, but it wasn’t until Timbaland remixed the song “Apologize” that One Republic began to garner attention.

Q Which Mexican band has a song with Snoop Dogg?

A In 2016, after the Dodgers lost to the Chicago Cubs and were taken out of the running for the World Series, Long Beach rapper Snoop Dogg posted a video featuring the Banda MS song “Tengo Que Colgar.” The song centers on heartbreak, something Snoop and other Dodgers fans undoubtedly felt that day.

Members of Banda MS said in interviews that they first thought it was fake, but confirmed the video of Snoop listening to their music was real. In 2020, Banda MS and Snoop teamed up to release “Que Maldicion.” Last year, Banda MS won an American Music Award for favorite Latin duo or group.

Q Which country star has a 1960s Corvette-themed tour bus?

A Brad Paisley told People Magazine one of his favorite things about his tour bus was its customization. He said the inside looks like a high-end garage with a checkerboard theme. It also has red utility cabinets, the Corvette logo and a 1960 Pennzoil gas pump mounted behind the slide-out.

Q What glam-rock band did guitarist Slash audition for before Guns N’ Roses?

A Poison. He would replace Matt Smith, who left the band in 1985. The gig ultimately went to C.C. DeVille, the band’s current guitarist, due to his willingness to wear makeup, which was popular in the Los Angeles glam scene, but not with Slash.
