PELHAM, N.H. >> Lowell School Committee member Eileen P. DelRossi was arrested by the Pelham Police and is facing driving under the influence and other charges after a motor vehicle crash Wednesday evening.

In a statement early Thursday morning, the Pelham Police Department said officers responded to 290 Mammoth Road at 8:39 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a single car. At the scene the police said they found a 2021 Mazda CX-30 operated by DelRossi, 45, of Lowell, with heavy front-end damage from colliding with and severing a utility pole.

“At the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined that Ms. Delrossi was driving southbound on Mammoth Rd. and failed to negotiate the curve by the area of 290 Mammoth Road and exited the southbound lane and into the utility pole,” the Pelham Police statement said. “Mammoth Road between Greeley Road and Old County Road was closed for an extended period of time so that crews could repair the broken pole. The Pelham Fire Department transported Ms. Delrossi to a local hospital for minor injuries.”

The police said they determined DelRossi to have been impaired, so she was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless operation, criminal mischief and use of mobile electronic devices while driving. She is set to be arraigned at the Salem, N.H. District Court on Sept. 15 at 8 a.m.

DelRossi, who resides in Lowell’s Centralville neighborhood, is on the ballot for a third term representing District 2 on the Lowell School Committee (composed of City Council Districts 2 and 4) after first being elected in 2021, though she is running uncontested. A preliminary election for the School Committee and City Council races is set for Sept. 9, with the general city election taking place Nov. 4.

DelRossi did not immediately respond to a phone call and voicemail left by The Sun Thursday morning asking for comment.

A spokesperson for Lowell Public Schools said the School Department would decline to comment on the matter. Lowell Mayor Dan Rourke, who serves as School Committee chair in his capacity as mayor, also declined to comment at this time.

This is not DelRossi’s first time facing charges related to drunk driving. According to Lowell District Court records, she was arrested for operating under the influence on Jan. 27, 2018 following a minor crash at the intersection of Chelmsford and Forest streets in Lowell. On Feb. 20 of that year, the case was continued without a finding for one year after DelRossi admitted to sufficient facts to support the charge. The court ordered DelRossi to participate in a 24D alcohol education program along with a 45-day loss of license, according to court records. The case was dismissed on Feb. 20, 2019 on the recommendation of the probation department.
