The Archie Williams High boys basketball team locked down defensively to secure a 52-29 victory against Urban on Saturday night — their second meeting in the past week.

The Peregrine Falcons (9-4) got a solid night from James Butler, who tallied 13 points and three assists.

Ephraim Sohn added 11 points and two assists, while Brian Wright had 11 points and five rebounds. Grady Stewart chipped in six points and nine assists.

Archie Williams opens MCAL play on Friday at home versus Marin Catholic.

• Tam suffered its lowest scoring performance in Saturday’s 65-30 road loss to Cardinal Newman. Tam (3-11) will try to shed its four-game skid during Friday’s MCAL opener against San Marin.

• Novato scratched out a 49-43 non-league victory over Point Arena on Saturday. The Hornets (5-6) are scheduled to play crosstown rival San Marin on Wednesday.

Girls basketball

San Marin beat Las Lomas 46-34 in Saturday’s non-league contest. The Mustangs (11-3) are scheduled to face crosstown rival Novato on Tuesday in a MCAL preview.

• Redwood fell to Oakland Tech, 84-64, during Saturday’s Sabrina Ionescu Showcase in Concord. The Giants (7-7) are scheduled to host Miramonte on Tuesday.

Water polo

San Anselmo’s Dylan Woodhead will represent Team USA at the World Aquatics Men’s World Cup Division 1 tournament, which begins Monday in Bucharest, Romania. Woodhead was a member of the U.S. National squad that won the bronze medal in the 2024 Olympics.

This week’s World Cup is a qualifier for the 2025 Water Polo World Cup Super Final in April.
