



The Chico High School boys basketball, which entered as the No. 4 seed in the Northern Section Division III playoffs, was upset by No. 5 seed Enterprise in a first-round matchup Friday.
The Hornets defeated the Panthers 52-43 at The Pit at Chico High School.
Enterprise (14-12) advances to the NSCIF D-III semifinals, where it will face No. 1 Pleasant Valley (17-10) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The Vikings defeated No. 8 seed Shasta 70-42 to advance. The winner between the Hornets and Vikings will advance to the NSCIF D-III championship, held at 5:15 p.m. March 1 at Butte College.
Chico ends its season with a record of 14-13.
Pleasant Valley 70, Shasta 42 >> The No. 1 seed in the NSCIF D-III playoffs defeated No. 8 Shasta in Chico.
PV jumped out to a 24-6 lead after the first quarter and 39-20 lead at halftime. The Vikings outscored the Wolves 31-22 in the second half.
PV (17-10) advances to the NSCIF D-III semifinals and will host No. 5 Shasta at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Foothill 73, Las Plumas 42 >> The No. 2 seed in the NSCIF D-III playoffs defeated No. 7 Las Plumas in Palo Cedro.
Foothill advances to the NSCIF D-III semifinals, where it will face No. 6 Corning at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Palo Cedro. LP ends its season with a record of 19-10.No stats were provided by either team.
Gridley 63, Colusa 31 >> The No. 1 seed in the NSCIF D-IV playoffs defeated No. 9 Colusa in Gridley in the quarterfinal matchup.
Gridley (23-4) advances to face No. 4 West Valley at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Gridley. Colusa ends its regular season with a record of 11-17.

Orland 50, Yreka 49 >> The No. 3 seed in the NSCIF D-IV playoffs defeated No. 6 Yreka in Orland.
The Trojans led 14-8 after the first quarter, but the Miners took a 24-22 lead at halftime. It was tied 35-35 after three quarters, and the Trojans outscored the Miners 15-14 in the fourth quarter.
Jayden Thompson led Orland 14 points and Preston Carlson had 13 points. Dominick Bose had a team-high 17 rebounds and five assists.
Orland (21-9) advances to face No. 2 University Prep at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Redding.
Weed 71, Hamilton 47 >> The No. 1 seed in the NSCIF D-V playoffs defeated No. 8 Hamilton in Weed.
The Cougars (22-6) advance to face No. 4 Mt. Shasta at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Weed. Hamilton ends its season with a record of 13-14.

Durham 70, Trinity 44 >> The No. 2 seed in the NSCIF D-V playoffs defeated No. 7 Trinity in Durham.
Durham (25-4) advances to face No. 3 Portola at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Durham.
Durham led 13-11 after the first quarter, 32-18 at halftime, and Trojans outscored the Wolves 24-12 in the fourth quarter.

Prep girls basketball
Biggs 48, Los Molinos 34 >> The No. 2 seed in the NSCIF D-VI playoffs defeated No. 7 Los Molinos in the quarterfinals in Biggs.
Los Molinos led Biggs 17-15 after the first quarter, but the Wolverines outscored the Bulldogs 33-17 the final three quarters.
Biggs (21-5) advances to face No. 3 Fall River at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Biggs.
College baseball
Chico State 10, San Francisco State 9 >> The Wildcats won in San Francisco in their California Collegiate Athletic Association opener.
Chico State led 2-0 after the second inning, 5-0 after the third, and 9-1 after the fourth. The Gators trimmed the lead to 10-8 after six innings, and 10-9 after eight.
Daniel Vierra led the Wildcats with four hits, and Michael Baker and Jesse Gadd had two hits each. Troy Kent, Jeremy Keller and Carson Case had one home run each, and Vierra, Baker and Gadd had one double each. Case had four RBI, and Keller had two RBI.
On the mound Marco Ibarra pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed six hits, one walk and four earned runs to earn his second win of the season. Aaron McCurley pitched the final 1 1/3 innings and allowed one hit and struck out one to earn his second save of the season.
Chico State (8-2, 1-0 CCAA) continues play with a doubleheader against SF State on Saturday, before finishing its series at noon Sunday in San Francisco. The Wildcats host Cal Poly Pomona at 6 p.m. Friday (Feb. 28).
Butte 5, Feather River 3 >> Butte College won in Quincy in its Golden Valley Conference opener, despite being outhit 9-4. The Roadrunners took advantage of three walks and two errors by the Golden Eagles.
The Roadrunners led 1-0 after the first inning, then scored runs in the fourth, fifth and six innings.
Grant Sonke, Trent Van Nuys, Ryan Pearson and Carter Imbach had one hit each, and Aidan Santos had two walks. Jordan Riley pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits, two walks, one earned run and struck out four to earn the win on the mound.
Butte (10-5) continues play against FRC Saturday and Sunday.
College softball
Chico State 1-5, Cal State Monterey Bay 0-4 >> The Wildcats opened CCAA play with two walk-off, extra-inning wins in Chico.
Leadoff hitter Kennedy Gustin singled up the middle in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Wildcats their lone run of the game in game one. Aiyana Curry added two hits in game one, and pitcher Amelie Valdez tossed eight innings and allowed three hits, two walks and struck out four to earn her sixth win of the season.
In game two, the Wildcats trailed 4-0 after four innings, but Mia Santos had an RBI single and Curry doubled down the left field line with the bases loaded to score three runs in the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the eighth, Marissa Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Elisa Haas for the walk-off victory. Kylie Loertscher tossed three innings and allowed five hits, three walks and three earned runs, and Bella Tavares tossed five innings and allowed three hits, one earned run and struck out one to earn her second win of the season.
Chico State (10-2, 2-0 CCAA) continues play against Monterey Bay with a doubleheader Saturday, before traveling to Stanislaus State four a four game series beginning Friday (Feb. 28).
