Dominic Smith hit a walk-off grand slam and the Atlanta Braves stunned the Kansas City Royals with a six-run ninth inning in a 6-2 victory on Saturday night.

Smith hit a 3-2 pitch from Royals closer Carlos Estévez (0-1) over the right field wall.

The 11th overall pick by the Mets in the 2013 amateur draft out of Gardena’s Serra High, Smith is in his 10th major league season. In February he signed a minor league contract with the Braves who are his sixth MLB team.

Smith became the first player in MLB history to hit a walk-off grand slam in his debut with a new team.

“It’s just amazing,” said Smith, who was one of the last players to make the Braves’ opening day roster. “Played against the Braves for a long time, and being on the other side a lot of these endings kind of hurt, so to be on the right side of it this time was so fun.”

The Braves trailed 2-0 entering the ninth, but Mike Yastrzemski and Michael Harris II had RBI singles to tie it before Smith ended it with his home run.

Michael Wacha threw six shutout innings for the Royals.

Braves starter Reynaldo López gave up just three hits and one run in six innings.

Rice put New York ahead in the third against right-hander Tyler Mahle (0-1), done after four innings in his San Francisco debut.

Reds 6, Red Sox 5 (11): Dane Myers’ single to left in the bottom of the 11th inning scored TJ Friedl from third as Cincinnati edged Boston.

The Reds led 4-1 after three innings before the Red Sox rallied. Wilyer Abreu hit a solo homer with two out in the ninth inning off Reds closer Emilio Pagán to tie the score at 5.

Rangers 5, Phillies 4 (10): Jake Burger and Corey Seager each homered and visiting Texas recovered from blowing a three-run lead in the ninth inning to beat Philadelphia.

Wyatt Langford opened the 10th with a single off Phillies closer Jhoan Duran that sent the automatic runner to third. Duran (0-1) uncorked a wild pitch that scored Brandon Nimmo and allowed an RBI hit to Andrew McCutchen for a 5-3 lead.

Cardinals 6, Rays 5 (10): Rookie JJ Wetherholt lined a two-run, 10th-inning single after Michael McGreevy tossed six hitless innings to help host St.Louis beat Tampa Bay.
