An Oscar nominee for best international film tops the DVD releases for the week of July 16.
“Perfect Days”: Criterion Collection release of Wim Wenders’ 2023 drama centered on a Tokyo sanitation worker (Cannes best actor winner Koji Yakusho) who spends his days cleaning toilets in the city’s public restrooms.
“‘Perfect Days’ is about the importance of beauty and art in the lives of even the most humble among us,” writes former Boston Herald critic James Verniere in his review. “The film started out as a Tokyo-funded short to celebrate the architecturally significant Tokyo public park toilet system. Then, it became Wenders’ most acclaimed and art house-friendly effort in years.”
