First lady Jill Biden to speak at Anschutz Medical Campus event

First lady Jill Biden plans to stop in Aurora this weekend to promote the White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research.

Biden is set to land at Denver International Airport on Friday night. At noon Saturday, she is scheduled to speak and take part in a roundtable discussion at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

President Joe Biden announced the launch of the women’s health research initiative in November, led by the first lady and the White House Gender Policy Council. During his State of the Union address, Biden called on Congress to invest $12 billion for research in this area.

“Despite making up more than half the population, women have historically been understudied and underrepresented in health research,” according to a White House news release.

The Anschutz Medical Campus is home to the Ludeman Family Center for Women’s Health Research, the Colorado Center for Women’s Behavioral Health and Wellness and the UCHealth Women’s Care Clinic.

Biden will begin her trip in St. Paul, Minn.

Former gymnastics coach found guilty on multiple child sex assault charges

A former gymnastics coach who owned and operated a fitness school in Centennial has been found guilty on multiple charges of child sexual assault, Arapahoe officials announced Wednesday.

Erik Oldham, 37, was arrested in May 2022 on suspicion of multiple counts of sexual assault of a child, sexual assault of a child by a person in a position of trust, unlawful sexual contact, enticement of a child and criminal attempt, according to a news release from the Arapahoe County Sheriffs’ Office.

On April 5, a jury found Oldham guilty, and he returned to Arapahoe County jail on a no-bail hold while awaiting a sentencing hearing scheduled for July 8.

Information on which charges the jury found Oldham guilty on was not available.

Oldham was the owner and coach of A+ Athletics until August 2021, according to Wednesday’s release. In late 2021, a victim came forward with information about criminal behavior by Oldham connected to an athlete in his program.

Investigators believe Oldham may have had additional victims and continue to seek information, the release stated. Anyone with information about Oldham or the case can reach investigators at 720-874-8477.
