Elliott Hood has dedicated his life to public education

As a former CU Regent representing CD2, I understand the critical role that Regents play in shaping the future of our university system. It is imperative that we elect individuals with the right experience, values and dedication to lead CU forward. That’s why I strongly support Elliott Hood for University of Colorado Regent At-Large in the upcoming June 25 Democratic primary election.

Elliott has dedicated his life to public education. After graduating from CU Boulder, he taught fifth grade in a low-income community, encouraging each of his students to pursue higher education. Now he is an attorney advocating for school districts and educators across Colorado, from large districts on the Front Range to smaller districts on the Eastern plains and Western Slope.

An At-Large Regent serves the entire state. Because of his statewide legal work, Elliott has endorsements from more than 50 current and former members of the Colorado General Assembly. He also has the support of numerous elected CU leaders — current Regent At-Large Lesley Smith, Regent Chair Callie Rennison, and former Regents Irene Griego, Michael Carrigan, and myself. This broad support underscores Elliott’s ability to collaborate effectively and build consensus — a crucial skill for navigating the complexities of higher-education governance.

One of the key challenges facing CU is securing adequate funding to support its mission of enhancing affordability and improving pay for teachers and staff. Elliott is the candidate best suited to work collaboratively with the legislature to advocate for better funding opportunities for CU, as well as to work within the CU system to make college more affordable for our students.
