Eula Jane Davis passed away at home on Thursday, January 23, 2025, in Longmont, Colorado. Eula was one of four siblings, born February 23, 1928, in Dickens, Nebraska. She cultivated grit and an unshakable devotion to family growing up on a small farm outside of Dickens with no electricity or indoor plumbing, but where there was no shortage of love.
In 1945 at the age of 17, on the heels of WWII, she struck out for Colorado on the journey of a lifetime to forge a better life with her sister, Norma. Eula and Norma saved money and brought their parents and young brothers to Longmont in 1948 after securing a home for them. Early on, Eula worked various jobs, mostly in banking.
She proudly helped raise money for Longmont Hospital's first incubator for preemies as a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.
While working at Columbia Savings and Loan she attended Real Estate School in Denver, CO in the early 1960's, launching her lifelong career in the field. Eula never "sold real estate"; instead, with sincerity and her astute business savvy, her honesty, her endless energy and care, she poured her hear t into finding homes for generations of families over decades throughout Boulder County. Deep connection was her business. She kept her real estate license current into her 80's.
Eula met the love of her life, Wendell V. Davis, and they married on April 15, 1965, amid the pines in a small, intimate service in Idaho Springs, Colorado. They combined their previous lives, were soulmates, and remained married for a beautiful 53 years until Wendell's death in 2018.
Eula was a force. She was known for her tenacity, her humor, her storytelling, her prolific memory, her unending generosity and her resourceful solutions to any problem that arose.
She and Wendell raised generations of children.
She had a selfless spirit and a vigorous love of life, becoming incredulous at any mention of aging. She had things to do. She often famously stated, "I have to get my feet on the ground." Naps or putting her feet up were unheard of. If you knew Eula, you knew she was always chewing Double Bubble bubble gum, loved her coffee and the occasional Sam Adams beer, and that her cure for everything was Vicks. Never taking herself too seriously, she loved rambunctious Pitch card games with family, and often poked fun at herself which always drew lots of laughter.
She was known to play old vinyl records like Louie Armstrong's "Hello Dolly" and dance through the living room at age 90 to lift the spirits of her ailing husband. She was always in your corner, and always on-call. She was 911 and 411, answering the phone anytime, day or night, to provide any kind of help - a shoulder to cry on, a ride, a bail out, a dose of tough love, a joke, a unique perspective, and always unconditional love.
Without exaggeration, Eula's charitable humanity saved many, in so very many ways.
She will be greatly missed by family, friends, and all who knew her love.
Eula is survived by 3 children, Monte Davis (Julie), Sharla Barritt, and Marisa Harper (Tom); brother James Dennis Cropp; sisters-in-law Viola Cropp and Marilyn Edwards; daughter-in-law Consuelo Davis; grandchildren Jason (caretaker), Kandi, Haley, Jack, Joelle, Mason, Amy, Traci and Tawni; 11 great-grandchildren; and many adoring nieces and nephews.
Eula is preceded in death by her mother May Cropp and father Charles Oren Cropp; son Randy Davis; sister Norma Poffenroth; brother Louis Cropp; brother-in-law Dave Poffenroth; and sister-in-law Marcene Cropp.
