


Former Rockie Moustakas to retire with the Royals
SURPRISE, Ariz.>> Mike Moustakas is going to retire with Kansas City after spending 13 years in the majors and winning the World Series with the Royals in 2015. The Royals announced Moustakas’ retirement.
The 36-year-old infielder will sign a one-day contract with his first big league team on May 31, and he will be honored before Kansas City’s home game against Detroit that day.
Moustakas hit .247 with 215 homers and 683 RBIs in 1,427 games, also playing for Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Colorado and the Los Angeles Angels.
Judge denies Osuna’s bid for injunction that would allow him to play for Vols
KNOXVILLE, Tenn.>> Alberto Osuna’s bid to play baseball for defending College World Series champion Tennessee has received a setback. U.S. District Judge Charles Atchley denied Osuna’s motion for a preliminary injunction on Monday.
Osuna sued the NCAA last month while making the case that a year he spent at Walters State Community College shouldn’t count against his eligibility.
Kings apologize for selling scarves made in Turkey on team’s Armenian Night
EL SEGUNDO, Calif.>> The Los Angeles Kings have apologized for selling scarves made in Turkey during Armenian Heritage Night last month. The Los Angeles area is home to the largest Armenian community outside of Armenia.
The neighboring countries are historic enemies stemming from the deaths of an estimated 1.5 million Armenians in massacres, deportations and forced marches that began in 1915 in Ottoman Turkey. Historians widely view the event as genocide. Turkey vehemently rejects the label.
The Kings are offering refunds or exchanges to people who bought the scarves.
Capitals sign goaltender Charlie Lindgren to a 3-year, $9 million extension
WASHINGTON>> The Washington Capitals have shored up their goaltending tandem for the next few seasons by signing Charlie Lindgren to a three-year extension worth $9 million.
The deal comes five weeks since they signed fellow netminder Logan Thompson to a six-year deal worth $35.1 million. When their new contracts kick in next season, Thompson will count $5.85 million and Lindgren $3 million against the salary cap.
Serena Williams joins Toronto’s ownership group
Serena Williams is joining the Toronto Tempo ownership group. The team announced the move on Monday. She will partner with Larry Tanenbaum, Chairman of Kilmer Sports Ventures for the Tempo, who will begin play in the 2026 season.
Williams, one of the greatest tennis players in history, will also play an active role in future jersey designs.
Sarrazin recovering well after head injury, still unsure about racing again
PARIS>> French skier Cyprien Sarrazin says he is recovering fast after his head injury but remains unsure about whether he will return to competitive skiing. Sarrazin underwent surgery for bleeding near the brain after crashing during preparations for the World Cup downhill in Bormio, Italy. He told L’Équipe newspaper he is making progress quicker than expected.
