Griffith Police are investigating an alleged altercation between some Hobart officers attending an off-duty event this month, Griffith police Chief Greg Mance confirmed Monday.
Neither Mance nor Hobart police Chief Rick Zormier would provide any details regarding the incident or the investigation, saying it is an internal matter. They wouldn’t provide the names of the officers being investigated.
“Officers were off-duty at the time of an altercation. The officers have rights and are on paid leave pending the investigation,” Zormier said in an email.
Zormier said he would determine if discipline is warranted or any other actions should be taken once the investigation is complete, which he said should be in one to two weeks.
Zormier said the matter was being looked into as of June 4.
Mance said his department was asked to conduct the investigation because he is chairman of the executive board of the Northwest Indiana Major Crimes Task Force.
Zormier said no criminal complaint was filed regarding the alleged incident.
