At Fitzgerald High School, we offer many Career Technical Education (CTE) courses, including a pharmacy technician class. It is a full-year course that covers the basic knowledge required to become a pharmacy technician and prepares you for the Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).

If this interests you, during the first semester, you can participate in an after-school activity called HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America)! This activity is usually held after school every other Tuesday for about an hour, where you can study alone or with others who are also preparing for the same test.

You may be wondering, “What is HOSA?” HOSA focuses on health careers and tests your knowledge.

They offer a pharmacy-based test, along with many other tests and events that could pique your interest, many of which are also covered in the class!

You might be thinking, “Why should I join HOSA?”

Well, when competing in the regional competition, you have the chance to meet new people, test your knowledge in your chosen specialty, and have a great time with your friends! If you place in the top 7 in your specialty, you will have the opportunity to advance past regionals and move on to the state competition.

The state competition is held in Traverse City, Michigan, at the Grand Traverse Resort, with students from schools across the state. But don’t worry—if you don’t qualify, it doesn’t negatively affect you in any way and still looks good on college or job applications!

Overall, HOSA is a fun experience that can create amazing opportunities for future careers, lifelong memories, and unforgettable connections!
