Louis Anthony Sergio, affectionately known as Dr. Sergio, Doc, Uncle Lou, and Dad, passed away peacefully at home in Claremont on January 2 at 95.

Born on January 16, 1929, in Trenton, New Jersey, he moved to San Gabriel, California, at 16. He graduated from UCLA, where he met his wife, Lillian. Both became English teachers, and Louis later earned an MA and a PhD.

Louis dedicated 65 years to education, receiving awards such as Teacher of the Year at West Covina High School and Teacher of the Year for the Los Angeles County School District in 1994. He then became an adjunct English professor at Mt. San Antonio Community College for 23 years.

Beyond teaching, he helped establish the PDK Academic Olympiad and tried to dedicate some free time to writing. He was able to spend more time writing in his later years, even finding time to author “The Little Bull and I,” a book of memoirs whose storytelling style, no matter how tragic the tale is, makes readers laugh out loud.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; daughters, Tana and Christina; and son-in-law, Scott.

A celebration of life will be held on March 8from 1to 3 p.m. at Todd Memorial Chapel in Pomona, CA.
