Our beloved Elissa Joy (Teener) Getsug, born on August 5, 1951, left this world peacefully in her home on Thursday, March 27, 2025, surrounded by her dedicated husband and children. She is preceded in death by parents, Sophie and Jerome Teener; sister, Susan Calof (Alan), who passed away on the same date 24 years ago; and sister, Judith Kahn (Stephen). She is survived by her cherished husband, Rafael “Ray” Getsug; son, Benjamin (Dr. Erica Weiss); daughter, Deborah (Justin Rangel); grandchildren, Luna (9) and Mina (4); twin brother, Steven Teener; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in North Minneapolis, she attended Willard School for elementary, Lincoln Junior High, and North High before moving to Golden Valley and graduating from Robbinsdale in 1969. She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Minnesota. After college, she was set up on ablind date with Ray. They had dinner at the Nankin and went to the top of the IDS Center, and they’ve been joined at the hip for 52 beautiful years.

Elissa was wholeheartedly devoted to those she loved and the causes she believed in. Her commitment to family and faith extended far beyond her home. She modeled for her children the importance of volunteering in the Jewish community. She served as past co-President of the NCJW St. Paul section and was a life member of Hadassah. She was an active supporter of the St. Paul Talmud Torah Jewish Day School for over a decade, helping with fundraising efforts that reflected her dedication to education and her values. She was a steadfast volunteer for the Sholom Ball, and she would often sew her own exquisite dress corresponding with the event theme.

She was creative, extremely organized, and talented.

Elissa was grace and strength combined. Even in her most harrowing moments, she carried herself with dignity and courage. Like her mother, she would say, “just do”.

She was taken too soon, but her light will never be diminished.

Elissa’s life will be celebrated at 2:00 pm SUNDAY, March 30th at TEMPLE OF AARON SYNAGOGUE, 616 Mississippi River Blvd. S., St. Paul.

Shiva 7:00 pm Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday at Temple of Aaron Synagogue. We invite you to join us.

Elissa would want you to bring your favorite story and your warmest memories.
