Gisela Fettig, a long-time resident of Boulder, passed away on November 27, 2024. Gisela was born in Königsberg, Germany (Prussia). Shortly after losing her father in WW2, she and her mother and siblings moved to southwest Germany to the tiny village of Bietigheim where she met her husband to be, Karl Fettig. Gisela and Karl immigrated to the United States in 1956 where they first lived on a farm in Cedar Vale, KS, and soon thereafter married in Tulsa, OK.

They then quickly headed west and took up residency in southern California, but after less than 4 years, moved to Boulder where she would live for the rest of her life.

As a young girl, Gisela was very athletic, competing well in track and field. She also very much enjoyed skiing and dancing, and she and Karl were very active in the Boulder German Club.

Unfortunately, Gisela suffered a surgical tragedy in 1963, leaving her with a life-altering traumatic brain injury from which she never fully recovered.

Thereafter, Gisela lived out a difficult and complicated life; but through it all, her spirit brought many such unique joy and much laughter and a bit of spice.

She was preceded in death by her very close sister and friend, Christel E. Rasmussen, her brother Rudi Rehse, and her sister Lieselotta Rehse. Gisela is survived by her husband, Karl; her three children Renate Fettig, Roland Fettig and Rudy Fettig (Jane); four grandchildren Noelle Silva, Mellisa Densmore, Daniel Fettig and Thomas Fettig; and three great-grandchildren Dillan, Graeme and Lucas. A "Feiern des Lebens" will be held on January 18, 2025 at the Renaissance Boulder Flatiron Hotel. The family will hold interment at Louisville Cemetery.
