The Cardinal (11-5, 3-2) swept their first Atlantic Coast Conference homestand with wins against Virginia Tech and the Cavaliers.
Oziyah Sellers scored 15 points and Jaylen Blakes added 10 for Sanford, which converted 16 of 17 at the free-throw line.
Isaac McNeely’s 22 points led Virginia (8-8, 1-4).
Virginia Tech 71, Cal 68 >> Reserve Jaydon Young scored 14 points, Tyler Johnson recorded a double-double and Virginia Tech withstood Cal’s rally and beat the Golden Bears in Berkeley.
Johnson scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Hokies (7-9, 2-3).
Andrej Stojakovic scored 24 points and reserve Jeremiah Wilkinson scored 14 points for Cal (8-8, 1-4).
Stojakovic’s 3-point attempt to tie it with two seconds left rimmed out to end the game.
San Jose State 69, Air Force 62 >> Will McClendon scored 20 points to lead San Jose State (8-10, 1-5 Mountain West) over Air Force (3-13, 0-5) for its first conference and first road win of the season.

Giants officially sign Verlander, DFA Sabol >> The Giants officially signed three-time Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander and made room for him on the roster by designating catcher/outfielder Blake Sabol for assignment.
