Oakley

Dick Cusimano was born in Jamestown, New York in 1936 where he lived until he joined the army at age 17 and was stationed in Berlin. While on leave, he and a few buddies traveled 5,000 miles through Europe to experience the area. After the army, he moved to Washington D.C. where he worked at the Pentagon. He later moved to San Jose, where he worked at Arthur Murray Dance Studio as a dance instructor. He also worked at an auto body shop before he was hired at State Farm asaninsurance adjuster.

In 1978, Dick started a singles club with two friends. On the first night of this group, he met his wife Marilyn. They were later engaged and married that same year.

After twenty years with State Farm Insurance, Dick started Centurian Adjusters Company, an independent adjusting company working for other insurance companies on auto claims, property adjusting and medical malpractice. Twenty years later, he retired to Oakley to be closer to the Delta. He built his home here in 2001.

Dick loved boating, fishing and bowling. He bowled with a senior league for a number of years and had a respectable average. He also owned a 48 foot motor yacht "Interlude" and enjoyed water cruises with Bridge Marina Yacht Club and the Diablo Yacht Club for twenty years. He and his wife once cruised out the Golden Gate Bridge to Monterey with two other boats for a four day excursion with stops in Moss Landing and Half Moon Bay before returning to San Francisco.

Dick is survived by his wife Marilyn, his three children Felisa Martin (Dave) from Reno; Dana Cusimano (Kevin), and Andrew (Veronica) from Livermore; and step daughter Stephanie Jones from Reno. His eleven grandchildren Dawson and Savannah Martin from Reno;and Chase Martin from Salt Lake City; Giorgia Bates from San Diego and Cassidy Bates from Kirkland, Washington; Paris, Isabella and Lukas Cusimano from Livermore; and Austin Hadley from Reno, Ashley Garciduenas-Pritchard from Oakley and Nicholas Jones (Hailey) from Benicia and great grandchild Ryder Jones from Benicia.

He also predeceases his sister Virginia Johnstone from Brookfield, Co and several nieces and nephews.

Dick was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer in November 2024. He died peacefully in his home on November 15, 2025 surrounded by his wife of 47 years, children and grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held in February. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations to the cancer association of your choice would be appreciated.
