BOULDER COUNTY

Report: Workers monitor four new wells in Weld

Boulder County government workers continue to monitor four new drilling projects across the Weld County border, based on Boulder County’s 2024 Oil and Gas Year-End report, which was recently released.

The Weld County projects plans call for operators there to drill horizontally west to develop minerals under sections of Boulder County, according to the report. County workers — called the Boulder Oil and Gas Team — plan to watch over state proceedings to make sure that the Weld County projects meets all state requirements, the report said.

The Boulder Oil and Gas Team monitors and inspects existing wells for gas leaks and monitors new oil and gas projects that are near Boulder County borders, according to the report. Some 56 percent of the county’s existing 165 wells are not producing any oil or gas, and are labelled as ‘shut-ins.’ There are 68 tank facilities.

Boulder County has not had any new oil and gas development in over a decade, with the last well drilled in 2012, the report said.
