Jimmy Butler has gotten his wish. He’s being traded out of Miami.
The Heat and the Golden State Warriors have agreed on a deal that sends Butler to the Bay Area, a person with knowledge of the talks said Wednesday. The trade ends a Miami era for Butler that will be remembered first for two trips to the NBA Finals and then three suspensions toward the end of a hostile breakup.
Golden State is making it happen by moving Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson and draft compensation out in the deal, said the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the trade has not gotten league approval.
It wasn’t immediately clear if all three of those players were ending up in Miami.
Golden State becomes Butler’s fifth team, after stints in Chicago, Minnesota, Philadelphia and Miami. His arrivals were celebrated in all four cities, and his departures weren’t exactly smooth in any of them.

Vikings lose Udinski to be Jaguars’ new OC
Though the Vikings managed to keep defensive coordinator Brian Flores, they did not get out of the hiring cycle unscathed.
That’s because the Jacksonville Jaguars announced on Wednesday night that they have hired rising star Grant Udinski as their new offensive coordinator. It’s a big jump for Udinski, 29, after previously serving as the assistant quarterbacks coach for the Vikings alongside quarterbacks coach Josh McCown.
“He is a rising star in this league that has been a pillar of success for the Vikings organization,” Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said in a statement. “We can’t wait to have him lead our offense.”

Vonn sick on eve of her super-G return
Lindsey Vonn is feeling sick with “a cold or the flu” on the eve of her first event at the world championships in her return to ski racing at the age of 40.
The American, a two-time world champion and the holder of eight total medals at the biggest event in skiing outside the Olympics, is scheduled to race in the super-G on Thursday.
Vonn placed 29th in Wednesday’s second downhill training session. Her other two races are the downhill on Saturday and the team combined next week.
Vonn is scheduled to start with the No. 30 bib in the super-G.
No Shiffrin-Vonn dream team at Alpine worlds
Mikaela Shiffrin is not going to pair with Vonn in a dream team at the Alpine skiing world championships.
Shiffrin announced that she needs more time for training as she regains her form from a deep puncture wound and won’t be entering the team combined event at worlds.
Vonn had been campaigning for a spot alongside Shiffrin in the event, which involves one squad member racing downhill and another racing slalom.
Vonn could now pair with Paula Moltzan instead. Both Vonn and Moltzan grew up skiing at Buck Hill in Minnesota and Vonn was Moltzan’s hero.

Players’ union boss: No one wants 18th game
An 18-game NFL regular season isn’t a slam dunk.
NFLPA executive director Lloyd Howell pushed back on it even though NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has openly talked about it as if it’s inevitable.
The two sides haven’t had formal discussions about expanding the season, which would require renegotiating the collective bargaining agreement.
“Their side hasn’t raised it, we certainly haven’t raised it,” Howell said. “It’s a players’ decision as to what they will agree to do or not. Right now when I have talked to players over the last two seasons, no one wants to play an 18th game. No one. Seventeen games, for many of the guys, is too long.”

Alonso stays with Mets for $54M, source says
First baseman Pete Alonso is staying with the New York Mets, agreeing to a $54 million, two-year contract, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement, first reported by The New York Post, was subject to a successful physical.
Alonso will get a $10 million signing bonus and can opt out after the 2025 season to become a free agent again.
Alonso hit 226 homers over six seasons with the New York Mets and became a four-time All-Star.

Trump admin aims for IOC trans athlete ban
President Donald Trump is taking his fight against transgender athletes to the International Olympic Committee.
Trump said during a signing ceremony for an executive order aimed at banning transgender athletes from women’s sports that his administration wants the IOC to “change everything having to do with the Olympics and having to do with this absolutely ridiculous subject” ahead of the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles.
The order calls for the secretary of state and the Department of Homeland Security to “review and adjust, as needed, policies permitting admission to the United States of males seeking to participate in women’s sports.” There is no evidence that male athletes have competed in women’s Olympics events.
