Severe storms expected Monday
Extreme thunderstorms, hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning and possible tornadoes are anticipated Monday afternoon and evening across central and eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, according to the National Weather Service.
“It is worth repeating — Monday is likely to be a dangerous weather day,” the National Weather Service wrote on its website. “It is important to have severe weather safety plans in place now so quick and decisive action can be taken when storms approach and warnings are issued.”
A level 4 highest local risk alert was issued Sunday by the NWS for the Twin Cities.
All severe weather hazards are possible Monday, including strong tornadoes, though a tornado threat will depend on the structure of the storms, the NWS wrote. If a tornado were to occur, it would likely happen in the early evening.
Residents are encouraged to be prepared to shelter if needed, in basements or rooms with no windows. Residents are also asked to be prepared to adjust their plans, ensure their devices can receive weather alerts and know how to evacuate if needed.

Teacher charged with criminal sexual conduct
An Oakdale middle school teacher has been charged with one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child under 13.
Ho Tu Duong, 46, of Maple Grove, allegedly abused a minor from 2019 to 2022 at a St. Anthony home, according to the complaint in Hennepin County District Court.
Duong is a math teacher at Skyview Middle School in Oakdale. The North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale school district said he began teaching in August 2011.
A letter to parents said he is on administrative leave and “cannot be on school district property or have contact with students.” The letter also said the alleged abuse had no connection with the school or school district.
According to the criminal complaint, Duong abused the girl when he stayed the night to watch her while her mother worked. Duong allegedly told the girl that if she said anything about the abuse, he would kill her mother, the complaint said.
Duong had his first court appearance Friday. He is currently in custody in lieu of $200,000 bail. He is next scheduled to appear in court May 22.
