Patrick Kane scored the decisive third-period goal and added an assist as the host Detroit Red Wings beat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-4 on Wednesday night.

J.T. Compher and Lucas Raymond also contributed a goal and an assist each. Alex DeBrincat, Michael Rasmussen and Joe Veleno had the other goals for the Red Wings.

Travis Konecny, Noah Cates, Ryan Poehling and Owen Tippett scored for the Flyers.

RANGERS TRADE KAKKO TO KRAKEN >> The New York Rangers traded Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday, ending the winger’s tumultuous time in the organization less than 36 hours after he expressed displeasure about being a healthy scratch.

The Rangers received defenseman Will Borgen, a 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round pick from Seattle in the deal.

Kakko said Tuesday he was surprised by coach Peter Laviolette’s decision to bench him during the struggling Rangers’ game Sunday at St. Louis.

SCHULTZ RETIRING AFTER 12 SEASONs >> Two-time Stanley Cup-winning defenseman Justin Schultz is retiring after 12 NHL seasons following a short stint in Europe.

The NHL Players’ Association announced Schultz’s decision Wednesday.

Schultz won the Cup with Pittsburgh in 2016 and ’17 after spending his first four seasons with Edmonton.

PREDATORS TRADE CARRIER TO CANADIENS >> The Nashville Predators traded defenseman Alexandre Carrier to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for blueliner Justin Barron.
