Scotts Valley High’s softball team remains intent on entering the postseason as one of the section’s hottest teams.

The Falcons enjoyed a four-run outburst in the fourth inning to rally past rival San Lorenzo Valley 5-2 in the Cougars’ Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League finale on Thursday. It was the repeat league-champion Falcons’ 11th straight game.

Senior Jazzy Doubek had two hits, one RBI, and scored twice for the Falcons (20-5-1, 13-1), who play at Santa Cruz (7-16, 5-9) in a make-up game Saturday at 11 a.m. to close the regular season.

The Central Coast Section seeding meeting takes place Monday afternoon in San Jose, and the first round of the playoffs begin May 24.The Falcons, who are batting .346 (203 for 587) with 47 extra-base hits, earned their latest win with eight hits, all singles, and two walks, mixed with some aggressive base running to put pressure on the Cougars’ defense.

Sophomore Chloe Kent had two hits, one RBI, and scored a run for the Falcons. Senior Nick Powell and junior Natalie Murray-Skalland each had a hit and one RBI. Sophomore Lorelei Warner had a hit and run scored, and senior Taylor Wilson also scored.

SLV finished with seven hits and one walk. Seniors Abi Krepelka and Olive Colby each had a hit and one RBI for the third-place Cougars (12-9, 10-5). Senior Angie Fulkerson and junior Sophia Sarmiento each scored a run.

SCCAL runner-up Aptos (15-7, 11-4) owns the league’s second automatic berth into the CCS playoffs. SLV will apply for an at-large berth.

At Aptos 16, Santa Cruz 0; 5 inn. >> Senior outfielder Kailani Aguayo doubled and homered, and sophomore infielder Kalina Healy also hit a round-tripper in the playoff-bound Mariners’ regular-season finale Thursday.

The Mariners (15-7, 11-4) scored 10-plus runs for the third straight game and 11th time this season. They’re batting .404 (221 for 547) with 14 home runs among their whopping 77 extra-base hits.

Aguayo finished with five RBI and scored twice. Healy had three hits, two RBI, and scored twice. Senior shortstop Bailey Fulton hit two doubles, drew a walk, had two RBI, and scored a run. Freshman Gwen Vaca had two hits, two walks, two RBI, and scored three runs. Senior infielder Makenzie Lashley had two hits, one RBI, and a run scored. Senior infielder Lilly McGee had two hits and one RBI, and junior outfielder Cara Allshouse had a hit, one RBI, and scored twice.

Tezdyn Medina-Mates doubled for the Santa Cruz (7-16, 5-9). Phoebe Daodu and Lucia Curley accounted for the Cardinals’ other two hits.

Sophomore Mya Najera-White struck out six batters in her complete-game win.

The fourth-place Cardinals host SCCAL champion Scotts Valley (20-5-1, 13-1) in a makeup game Saturday at 11 a.m. to close the regular season.

At Soquel 7, Harbor 2 >> The Knights had four hits and two walks, but capitalized on five Pirates’ errors to win their SCCAL and regular-season finale on Thursday.

The Knights (5-11, 4-11) finish in fifth place and the Pirates (2-16, 1-14) in sixth.

Addisyn Schaefer and Saige Buck each had a hit and run scored for Harbor. Hana Pomrantz and Kylee Rimicci each had one RBI.

High school baseball

At Soquel 9, Harbor 7 >> The Knights, who have proved themselves as comeback kings when trailing, did it again. They scored six runs over their final three at-bats to rally from a 7-3 deficit and win their regular-season finale Thursday.

Senior Noah Piona and junior Jake Escalante each had two hits, one RBI, and two runs scored for the Knights (25-1, 14-1), winner of their first SCCAL title since 2015.

Junior Trey Sousa had a hit and two RBI, and junior Sam Whelan also had two RBI for the Knights, who are ranked No. 6 in the CCS and no. 90 in the state by maxpreps.com. Junior Hudson Summerrill had a hit and scored twice.

Senior Nativo Gonzalez gave up three hits, one walk and one run over 5 2/3 innings of relief and picked up the win. He struck out six batters.

SCCAL runner-up Santa Cruz (14-11, 11-3) and third-place Scotts Valley (12-14, 8-7) also secured automatic berths into the section playoffs.

At Scotts Valley 13, SLV 2 >> Junior Isaac Martin had two hits, one RBI, and scored twice to help the playoffs-bound Falcons win their SCCAL finale Thursday.

Seniors Eli Velez and Kit Deforest each had a hit, two RBI, and a run scored for the third-place Falcons (12-14, 8-7), who close the regular season with a nonleague game at Leigh (20-5) in San Jose on Saturday at noon.

Velez had two of the Falcons’ 11 stolen bases.

Senior Lukas Bloom had one RBI and scored three runs, and senior Tyler Howard had a hit, two stolen bases, and scored twice.

Senior right-hander Kaleb Wing struck out eight batters over three scoreless innings and earned the win. The MLB Draft prospect, who is committed to Loyola Marymount University, walked two batters and gave up one hit.

Senior Jordan Renteria had a hit, one walk, and scored a run for the Cougars (3-23, 0-15). Junior Porter Boyd also scored. Jaden Shabry had two walks and accounted for SLV’s other hit.

At Carmel 12, St. Francis 11 >> The playoffs-bound Sharks gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and dropped their Pacific Coast Athletic League Gabilan Division and regular-season finale on Thursday.

Despite their loss, the Sharks (13-14, 8-10) secured one of the Gabian’s five automatic berths to the upcoming CCS playoffs. Also advancing from the division with automatic berths are Palma (20-6, 14-4), Hollister (18-8, 12-6), Carmel (17-9, 12-6), and Monterey (9-17, 7-11).

Javier Fonseca had two hits, three RBI, and scored a run for the Sharks. Nick Fantl had two hits and three RBI. Nash Horton had a hit, one RBI, and scored twice. Noah Magana had two RBI and scored a run, and Jacob Fonseca and Mason Borrego each had a hit and scored twice.

Matt Maxon had two home runs, five RBI, and scored three runs to lead the Padres. Sean Carr also homered, had two RBI, and scored twice.

Dario Malicia earned the win in relief, and Jeremiah Mendez took the loss.

The Sharks finished 1-2 against Carmel in the teams’ thrilling, three-game series, all of which were decided by one run. They lost 4-3 on April 15 and won 6-5 on April 17.

North Salinas 3, at Watsonville 0 >> The Wildcatz were shut out for the first time since their season opener Feb. 25 to close the regular season on Thursday.

Watsonville (11-14, 9-3) finished in second place in the PCAL’s Cypress Division. The division-champion Vikings (19-5, 12-0) advance to the CCS playoffs with an automatic berth.

The Vikings scored twice in the third inning to break up a scoreless game, and tacked on an insurance run in the sixth. They finished with six hits and drew three walks.

Seniors Gabriel Lara, Francisco Rodriquez-Bermundez, Ben Miller, Kaden Ortiz, and Patrick Miller-Brown accounted for the Wildcatz’s five hits.

Senior Rudy Valdez took the complete-game loss. He struck out six batters.

Men’s track and field

Redlands Final Qualifier >> UC Santa Cruz sophomore Evan Hofstetter took first place in the decathlon with 6,550 points at the two-day Redlands Final Qualifier that ended Thursday.

UCSC had five other top-five finishers: junior Levi Laden took second in the 400-meter race(48.13), senior Aaron Hillberg took third in the 800 (1:53.20), junior Tetsuo Eng took third in the long jump (21 feet, 10.75 inches) and senior teammate James Contini took fourth (21-5.5), and junior Sotirios Kougiouris took fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.42).

Women’s track

Redlands Final Qualifier >> UCSC had two senior runners post top-five finishes in two events at the two-day Redlands Final Qualifier that ended Thursday.

The Banana Slugs’ Amaya Cummins took second in the 100 (12.09) and fourth in the 200 (25.20), and Caitlin Donovan took second in the 400 (57.03) and fifth in the 200 (25.40).
