A Pontiac mother facing trial for leaving her three children to live alone in squalor for years is out of jail.

Kelli Bryant was released from the Oakland County Jail at about 5 p.m. after posting a $50,000 bond, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and court records.

Bryant’s attorney was not immediately available for comment on Friday.

Authorities charged Bryant with three counts of first-degree child abuse in February. If convicted, she faces up to life in prison.

Police and prosecutors said she left three of her children alone in a Pontiac home surrounded by trash and feces while she lived elsewhere.

They said the children 15-year-old boy, 13-year-old girl and 12-year-old girl survived on weekly drop-offs of prepared food. Some rooms in their house had garbage piled as high as 4 feet, and sheriff’s deputies found mold and human waste throughout.

Bryant was arrested after her landlord called police for a welfare check at the home because he hadn’t heard from her and she had not paid rent in months.

A judge in February initially set Bryant’s bond at $250 million, deeming her a flight risk, but another judge lowered it the next month.

Also in March, a judge temporarily revoked Bryant’s jailhouse communications privileges after she allegedly violated a court order prohibiting her from having contact with her children or their caregiver. Bryant called her children’s caregiver 10 times between March 8-12 from the jail to talk to the youths about her criminal case, according to prosecutors. Bryant also allegedly had other jail inmates call the caregiver on her behalf.

The same month, prosecutors added three counts of welfare fraud against Bryant. They said she continued to collect public assistance for the children after abandoning them. Each charge has a penalty of up to four years in prison and/or a $500 fine.

Last month, a district court judge ordered Bryant to stand trial in circuit court on the child abuse charges.

Bryant is scheduled to appear in Oakland County Circuit Court for a pre-trial conference on June 18, according to court records.
